Events can be the biggest opportunity to get more eyes on your business, and no, you don’t have to be the one standing on the stage if that’s not your jam.
Whether you’re attending a small local meetup, a creative retreat, or a big industry event like, visibility starts way before you walk through the door and continues long after you’ve left the room.
Here’s how to make your presence felt, and remembered.
Share Before You Show Up
Visibility doesn’t start on the day. Start building a buzz before you even arrive.
If you’re heading to an event, post about it on your social channels or email list. Tag the organisers and mention any speakers or brands you’re looking forward to hearing from. Ask your audience who else is attending so you can start to build up hype.
This isn’t just about promotion; it’s about connection. You’re planting seeds before you meet anyone in person, so when you do, there’s already a sense of familiarity.
Stand Out and Be Memorable
Please, not another branded pen. Everyone has a drawer full of them.
Don’t get me wrong, I love a goodie bag, but the sweets go to my husband and paper freebies usually end up in the recycling.
Think about something that makes people remember you, and not ‘where the hell I’m I going to put this thing now’?
That could be a bold tote bag with a fun quote, a creative name badge, or even a clever follow-up gift like a handwritten postcard, or in my case at a recent event, a tin of baked beans.
Yes, true story.
Why? To remind people that their content should do what it says on the tin with a QR code to connect with me and get a free content audit.
The goal is to create a talking point. Something that makes people think, “Oh yes, you’re the one who…”.
Wearing something on-brand also helps. Whether that’s a colour that matches your business aesthetic, a T-shirt with your logo, or a statement accessory (mine is big earrings) it’s an easy visual cue that makes people associate you with your business straight away.
Build Real Connections, Not Just Contacts
You don’t need to ‘work the room’. Focus on a few meaningful conversations. Ask about what people do, listen properly, and don’t launch into your sales pitch straight away.
Make it easy for people to find you online. Create a QR code for your Instagram, LinkedIn, or website and save it to your phone wallpaper so people can scan it instantly. It’s simple, slick, and saves you fumbling for business cards.
If someone seems like a potential collaborator or client, send them a quick LinkedIn request while you’re there. Mention something you talked about so it doesn’t feel random later.
It’s not about collecting business cards; it’s about creating moments of connection that actually stick.
Take It From Offline to Online
What happens in the room shouldn’t stay in the room.
This is where most business owners miss out on the biggest opportunity to amplify.
Tag the event, speakers, and people you met on social media. Share a few photos or insights that stood out to you, whether that’s a powerful quote from a speaker, a fun behind-the-scenes moment, or your biggest takeaway.
These snippets make great content afterwards and help your audience feel part of it too. Take photos and short videos throughout the day such as the venue, your set-up, the crowd, your outfit, even your notebook and coffee.
But don’t just do this after the event. Do it during too to maximise impact. Share these snippets on your Instagram stories, in the event Facebook group or a quick post on LinkedIn. Tag people you meet, the speakers and the event organisers. Use the event hashtags too.
I do this at every single event I go to, and I always get an increase in connections, visibility and engagement.
Follow Up and Stay Visible
Within a couple of days, message the people you connected with. Say you enjoyed meeting them, share something relevant, or tag them in a post that relates to your conversation.
Then create a post-event recap. Tag the event, speakers, and attendees you connected with, and share your top insights or takeaways. It positions you as engaged and thoughtful, not just another attendee passing through.
Go one step further and comment on posts from other attendees and speakers too. It boosts your visibility, helps you stay front of mind, and keeps the conversation going long after the event has ended.
Final Thoughts
Events aren’t just about who’s in the room, they’re about what you do with the visibility you create.
Every conversation, photo, tag, and follow-up adds to how people remember you. When you show up intentionally, wear your brand with confidence, and turn those in-person moments into online content that keeps the conversation going, you’re no longer just attending events, your maximising opportunities to get visibility and ultimately, make more sales.
That’s how you go from “just another face in the crowd” to the one people remember, connect with, and want to work with long after the event is over.
